NAOMH CONAILL 0-10 ST EUNAN'S 1-5 Donegal SFC Final NAOMH CONAILL are the toast of Glenties after lifting their first Donegal county title with a fully deserved victory over St Eunan's in the replay at MacCumhaill Park yesterday.
They dominated from the start, despite opting to play against the gale-force wind. Apart from a five-minute period, they were on top, and led 0-6 to 0-2 at the break.
Led by the experienced John Gildea at midfield and captain, Paddy Campbell at full-back, they never took the foot off the pedal in the second period, which saw Leon Thompson of Naomh Conaill and Ciarán Ryan of St Eunan's red-carded four minutes into the new half.
Anthony Thompson was a powerhouse at midfield alongside Gildea and the Letterkenny side weren't able to match their hunger. St Eunan's got back within three points by the 54th minute but points from John Timoney and Johnny McLoone put Naomh Conaill in control.
In added time there was a scare as they conceded a goal after a 13m free, but they were able to introduce long-serving Jim McGuinness as a sub to savour the atmosphere as he had missed the entire campaign with a cruciate injury.
