Heslin the hero as Lake County cruise

Westmeath 1-12
Carlow 0-6

INSPIRED by midfielder John Heslin, Westmeath were clear-cut winners over Carlow in this tie at Dr Cullen Park on Saturday evening.

The St Loman's clubman gave an exhibition of clean fielding while his distribution was also superb. Heslin finished a fine personal showing with a wonderful strike for the game's only goal on 58 minutes.

Carlow answered the first three points from the visitors with three of their own. But the superiority of the Lake County was undeniable and they were not flattered to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

They continued to dominate in the second half as Carlow failed to score from play and Heslin's wonderful goal underlined his side's superiority.
