Grogan shocks Wexford

TIPPERARY 0-17
WEXFORD 0-10

Barry Grogan's nine points helped to secure a surprise victory for the hosts at Semple Stadium which dented Wexford's promotion hope.

Wexford could have clinched promotion yesterday with a victory but must now sweat it out in their final game away to Limerick next weekend.

Tipp significantly boosted their survival hopes with a third win of the campaign and if results go their way next week, with the Premier County finishing away to Cavan, they could even snatch promotion.

Wexford could have few complaints after falling to a second defeat from six outings.

The Slaneysiders mustered just three points from play and they failed to score at all in the final 15 minutes as Tipp closed the game out.

Grogan's match-winning haul included six frees, and the Aherlow star almost goaled in the 47th minute but was denied by a point-blank Anthony Masterson save.

The sides were level four times in the first 18 minutes but crucially, Tipp went on to lead by 0-11 to 0-7 at half-time.

Wexford never got any closer than four points in the second half as Tipp's tireless centre-forward Philip Austin carried the fight to the visitors.

Grogan, sub Niall Curran and Austin added points to seal an impressive win.
