Gillespie's goal decisive

Donegal are football champions again after edging past Cavan at Brewster Park in Enniskillen. The Breffni lads started brightly with points from Jack Doyle and Oisin Carolan, before the holders took control.

Donegal's Cathal McGettigan and Patrick Gillespie added a point each before Cian O Maolagain fired in a well-worked goal after 13 minutes. David McCarron then put Donegal further in front before Cavan put a decent run together. Killian McSherry and John Carney pointed with Cathal McGettigan replying for Donegal, as the holders led 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time.

Cavan needed a good start to the second half and they got it with only two minutes gone. Conor Bradley's shot was fumbled by Donegal 'keeper Luke Kelly and McSherry reacted first to finish to the net.

Questions were now being asked of three-in-a-row-chasing Donegal, but they came up with all the answers as centre half-forward Willie Gillespie replied with a fine goal. Cavan scored a late goal through Carolan, but Donegal held on to take their 14th title.
