Dublin football manager Jim Gavin is giving youth its fling today in his first competitive outing in charge, the annual Evening Herald/Dublin Bus Dubs Stars clash at St Peregrine's (2.0).
Gavin's experimental-looking line-up includes rising stars like Jack McCaffrey, Paul Hudson and Philly Ryan among his starters and the substitutes include two of last summer's minor stars Davy Byrne and Eric Lowndes.
Tomas Brady has been selected at full-back, where he is flanked by his Na Fianna team-mate Johnny Cooper, while midfield is an all-Ballyboden St Enda's combination of Declan O'Mahony and Michael Darragh Macauley.
The football clash is preceded by the equivalent hurling game between the county seniors, for whom Anthony Daly has picked Conal Keaney at full-forward, and the county's best club selection (12.30).
Today's traditional internal New Year games will also give Gavin some early indication of form before his side open their inter-county season against Carlow in the first round of the Bord na Mona O'Byrne Cup in Dr Cullen Park on Sunday.
The Dubs Stars are held at a different club venue each year and for today's games there is free parking in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, from where there will be a free before-and-after shuttle service to the games at St Peregrine's (Blakestown Road).
