Flynn strike downs Marist

A Daniel Flynn goal just before half-time proved the vital score as St Mary's, Edenderry saw off visitors Marist, Athlone in dense fog.

The Offaly school had trailed by three points for much of the first period, but a scoring burst of 1-2 late in the half -- Flynn's goal and points from Sean Doyle and Daniel Grehan -- put them two points ahead by the break.

The advantage grew to four early in the second half, but Marist responded and three points in four minutes -- two from corner-forward Andrew Gleeson -- got the Athlone side back within striking distance.

But the visitors would only add one further point, while St Mary's banged over another five.
