SUBSTITUTE Adrian Flynn's punched 77th minute point proved the decisive score as Wexford snatched victory over Longford at Enniscorthy yesterday.
Longford looked on for an upset, but in the end it was the superior strike power of Ben Brosnan and Adrian Morrissey that saved Wexford.
Little separated the teams in the opening 15 minutes, which Longford led 0-3 to 0-2. The decisive first half score was in the 32nd minute when Redmond Barry was fouled, leaving Brosnan to power the penalty high into the net with Wexford going in with a 1-4 to 0-6 interval lead.
Longford responded with four unanswered points to lead 0-10 to 1-5 after 51 minutes. Wexford then led 1-8 to 0-10, with three minutes remaining. More scores then followed from both sides before Flynn's winning point.
