Feely heroics rescue Kildare
Dublin and Kildare must meet for a third time to decide this quarter-final after another 80 minutes failed to split the teams at Parnell Park on Saturday.
Kevin Feely hit the equaliser for the visitors from 40 metres in the second minute of injury-time of the second half of extra-time, having brought his side back into the game with a coolly slotted penalty goal in the 74th minute.
Prior to that, it looked like Dublin had done enough, first when outstanding substitute Philly Ryan goaled 29 seconds into that final period, and then when the same player pointed a 79th-minute free.
Kildare manager Bryan Murphy was loud in his praise for both sets of players. "It's amazing that they've not been separated after 160 minutes of football," he said. "There were questions asked of us today and we came up with the answers and that's all you can do. We're very proud of them."
Padraig Fogarty's ninth-minute goal separated the teams at half-time, with Kildare leading by 1-4 to 0-4.
The Lilywhites still held a two-point advantage with time running out but Sean Stewart cut the deficit to the minimum with 26 seconds left before Adam Caffrey kicked a brilliant equaliser in the fourth minute of injury-time to leave it 0-10 to 1-7.
Dublin raced to a two-point lead in extra-time thanks to points from Jack McCaffrey and Fergal Duffy but McGovern and Philip Cocoman restored parity before the interval.
Then came Ryan's heroics for Dublin but Feely replied in kind to ensure that this unforgettable saga will continue for another day at least.
