Brian Cuthbert enjoyed a comprehensive victory in his first game in charge of Cork as they cruised into a McGrath Cup semi-final along with their rivals Kerry.
Goals from Andrew O’Sullivan, substitute Kevin Crowley and John Hayes eased the 2010 All-Ireland champions into a 3-22 to 0-07 win over Limerick IT in Mallow with a number of new faces pressing their claims ahead of the league campaign.
The Limerick students failed to register a score in the opening half, trailing 1-15 to 0-0 and the two late goals from Crowley and Hayes, making his first appearance for Cork in almost two years, has them set-up nicely for next week’s semi-final with UL, who beat UCC in a high scoring game at the Gaelic Grounds, eventually prevailing by a single point on a scoreline of 5-18 to 4-16.
On the other side of the draw Eamon Fitzmaurice’s Kerry ran out 0-17 to 0-8 winners over IT Tralee in their quarter-final tie which was held in Tralee. Next up for the Kingdom is Cork IT who were victorious by 5-17 to 2-6 at home to Mary Immaculate College today.
