Evans quits after Tipp defeat
Bottom-of-the-table Tipperary crashed to their fifth defeat of the league as manager John Evans quit after this disappointing 12-point defeat to Sligo at Markievicz Park.
Evans was reluctant to go into detail about his decision but admitted that the recent losing streak has had an impact.
He said: "It's hard for me to take defeat after defeat. I struggle to countenance them, entertain them or put up with them. Today is just a day for an announcement. I'm leaving Tipp having made great friends. It's not a day for anything else other than to say thank you to everybody for their cooperation."
With relegation to Division 4 likely, Tipperary did themselves no favours with a poor second-half display, having gone in at half-time level at 0-6 apiece after a spirited first-half showing.
However, once Sligo got their shooting boots on, there was no mercy for the visitors as the sharp full-forward trio of Colm McGee, Adrian Marren and Stephen Coen supplied 1-10 in total.
McGee's goal after 57 minutes was a powerful finish -- Marren provided the assist -- and Coen ended up with four points, three of these in the second half. Tipperary only scored once in a one-sided second half -- from Robbie Costigan -- and were denied a consolation goal, when Thomas Ryan's shot was grabbed on the goal-line by Sligo sub Mark Breheny.
