A brace of early goals eased Cavan to victory over an experimental Armagh side at the Athletic Grounds.
But Cavan manager Terry Hyland is certainly not reading too much into this result.
"We allowed Armagh to come back at us. We still have a lot of work to do," he said.
His Armagh counterpart Paul Grimley admitted that his side have a lot of catching up to do. "We are a hell of a way behind Cavan. We have a long, hard road ahead."
Cavan led 2-3 to 0-3 by the 20th minute, Thomas Corr and Martin Dunne getting the goals; and when Dunne deflated Armagh's fightback with his second goal in the 40th minute, Cavan seemed to be cruising.
But inspired by Stefan Forker, who whipped over five points, and Stephen Harold, Armagh battled courageously.
But four points from Man of the Match Gearoid McKiernan underpinned Cavan's victory, with Armagh's Kieran Toner red-carded in the 70th minute.
