Down can keep upsets coming

IT would be just my luck if the upsets I predicted this summer are the ones that fail to materialise. Nevertheless, I'm sticking with Down to win tomorrow.

Although he's the new kid on the block, I've a feeling manager James McCartan can inspire his county, just as he did as a player.

I don't for one minute doubt Tyrone's calibre but they have to prove that they are not a team in decline. Having overcome their first hurdle, where they were expected to win, I think Down will prosper as underdogs tomorrow and reach the Ulster final.

In Connacht, Leitrim's trip to Dr Hyde Park is overshadowed by the tragic loss earlier this year of Philly McGuinness, something that puts our agonising about games into perspective.

All I can say is that I hope that the return to championship football helps the squad with the healing process and that the people of Leitrim turn out to support them.
