Donnelly catches eye

Tyrone 2-17
Cavan 1-4

Tyrone completed an unbeaten run through the group stages to qualify for the Dr McKenna Cup semi-finals, condemning Cavan to a third successive defeat in the process.

Two-goal Mark Donnelly pressed home his claim for a place in Mickey Harte's league side with a cultured strike in each half. After his opener on 33 minutes, there was really no way back for an outclassed Breffni side, who struggled to compete with an eager young Red Hand outfit, featuring five members of the 2008 All-Ireland minor-winning team.

With a 1-8 to 0-3 lead at the break, Tyrone struck for a second goal in the 55th minute. They piled on the punishment with a couple of Eoin McCusker scores, before Cavan wing forward Alan Clarke got in for a consolation goal.

That merely sparked another Tyrone flourish, and they hit the final four points of the game, with Mattie Donnelly contributing two gems from play.
