Donaghy to lead Kerry

Thursday February 02 2012

KIERAN Donaghy will captain the Kerry team as they renew their rivalry with Dublin for the first time since last September's dramatic All-Ireland final in Saturday's NFL Division 1 opener at Croke Park, WRITES DONNCHADH BOYLE.

Donaghy captains the side in the absence of Colm Cooper, who will lead the Kingdom for the second successive year when his club commitments with Dr Crokes are over. Jack O'Connor has named seven of the side that started the All-Ireland final with Sean O'Sullivan -- who was coaxed out of retirement over the winter -- set to make his first appearance for the Kingdom since the successful 2009 campaign.

Legion's James O'Donoghue makes his first competitive start for Kerry in the full-forward line alongside Donaghy and Barry John Keane, while Seamus Scanlon is at midfield after missing parts of last season through illness. Dublin name their team tomorrow.

Kerry (NFL v Dublin) -- B Kealy; S Enright, M O Se, P Crowley; T O Se, K Young, B McGuire; S Scanlon, B Sheehan; P Galvin, Darran O'Sullivan, S O'Sullivan; J O'Donoghue, K Donaghy, BJ Keane.
