A strong finish from DIT saw off the formidable home challenge at the IT Carlow grounds, as the Dublin students scored their second O'Byrne Cup win, having also beaten Wexford.
This was a closely contested game in which DIT made a good start with four unanswered points from Jason Doherty, Oisin McGinty, Johnny McGrath and Ciaran Reddin.
Carlow IT then gained a foothold in the game following their opening score from Kildare's Darroch Mulhall, a point from play.
With Carlow player Sean Gannon also prominent on the scoresheet, the home side went on to draw level at 0-5 apiece before a fine point from Wicklow's McGrath sent the visitors in at half-time 0-6 to 0-5 in front.
DIT held an 0-8 to 0-7 lead when Carlow IT struck for the game's only goal in the 43rd minute, full-forward James Doyle from Laois gaining good possession and coolly slotting home to put his side in front.
With 15 minutes remaining the home side still held a slender lead, 1-9 to 0-11.
But DIT finished the game much stronger as the home side tired, and just as the visitors had started the game, they ended it by hitting four points on the spin to seal victory.
