DIT have advanced to the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup after a hard-fought 2-15 to 0-12 win over NUI Maynooth in Bray.
The pre-game favourites and eventual winners got off to the better start and went three points in front before the Kildare side settled and began taking some scores of their own.
With around 20 minutes gone DIT scored their first goal to go 1-5 to 0-3 up but Maynooth rallied once more to cut the deficit to two points at the break.
It was looking like this one could go down to the wire but a second DIT goal killed off the game and a flurry of late points saw them advance to the last four as nine-point winners on a scoreline which flattered the victors
The quarter-final between UCC and St Mary’s, Belfast played at Ballkelly GAA in Kildare was a tighter affair with the Cork side ultimately advancing bu 0-13 to 1-6.
The first half was a very tight and tense affair with UCC going in at the break with a slender 0-5 to 0-4 advantage.
UCC began the second half brightly and extended their lead to four with three unanswered points before St Mary’s grabbed a goal to leave a solitary point between the teams.
Both sides traded points and UCC led 0-11 to 1-6 with just eight minutes remaining.
UCC added two more unanswered points to make the semi-finals with four points to spare.
