Dineen strike helps Macroom pass Chriost Ri test

By DLS Macroom 3-9 Colaiste Chriost Ri 2-3 Corn Ui Mhuiri SF

Thursday November 26 2009

DLS Macroom assured themselves of a place in the knock- out stages with a comfortable victory over Colaiste Chriost Ri at Cloughduv yesterday.

There was little to choose between the sides in the opening half at the end of which DLS led 0-3 to 0-2, but it took two fine saves by Chriost Ri 'keeper John Kerins, son of former Cork senior goalkeeper of the same name, to prevent his side from falling further behind.

Chriost Ri threatened to cause an upset when Jordan Philpott found the DLS net after Luke Connolly's shot came back off the crossbar. But the Macroom side hit back strongly scoring 1-4 without reply, the goal scored by Tony Dineen, which effectively killed off the Criost Ri challenge.

But credit to Chriost Ri as they got back in the game when Philpott drove a '45' all the way to the net.

But they never looked likely to win the game and DLS finished well with a third goal by Daniel Twomey to wrap up the victory.
