Deadly Corcoran in the groove
Scoil Aireagail 0-13 Abbey CC 0-11
The pinpoint accuracy of midfielder Ronan Corcoran guided Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale, to their first win of the campaign against Abbey CC in Ferrybank yesterday.
With incessant rain falling throughout and the conditions heavy underfoot, the game developed into a battle of the free-takers. Only seven of the 24 scores came from open play.
Five Mark Russell points left the home side 0-6 to 0-4 to the good at half-time. Corcoran fired all but one of Scoil Aireagail's first-half total. The exchange of frees between Russell and Corcoran continued after the break with the sides tied at nine points each entering the final quarter.
A decisive burst of three unanswered points in the space of three minutes for the Ballyhale school ultimately paved the way for victory. This purple patch included two frees from Corcoran and an Eamonn Power effort.
