The accuracy of freetaker Ciaran Donnelly enabled Jordanstown to overturn a three-point half-time deficit and defeat Derry in Ballinascreen.
Making light of the slippy conditions and blustery wind, the Tyrone man raised the white flag eight times at Dean McGlinchey Park to bring UUJ a well-earned win.
The Oak Leafers had looked lively early on and points from Eoghan Brown, Seamus Bradley (two) and Chris McKaigue saw them lead 0-4 to no score after nine minutes.
But, with the wind at their backs, Jordanstown were dominant in the third quarter with Mulholland, Colm Cavanagh and Colgan pointing and four consecutive frees from Donnelly seeing them open up a 0-11 to 0-7 lead.
A point from substitute Enda Lynn gave Derry a glimmer of hope and that was followed by a converted free from Seamus Bradley.
But another free from Donnelly extended the UUJ lead to 0-12 to 0-9 and Mulholland added the insurance score on 66 minutes.
Bradley did manage to get Derry back within three points but the home team never looked capable of getting the goal the needed to get back into the game.
