DCU issue final warning

DCU 0-17 UUJ 1-5 Sigerson Cup semi-finals

DCU will go into today's final as favourites after producing a superb second-half display to end UUJ's hopes of reaching back-to-back deciders.

The star-studded DCU side showed the full extent of their strength at Dangan in Galway yesterday when they sprung Donegal's Michael Murphy and David Kelly of Sligo off the bench.

As usual, Dean Rock led the way on the scoring front, with Dublin star Paul Flynn landing four excellent points.

A fine goal from Anton McArdle after nine minutes helped UUJ lead by 1-3 to 0-5 at the interval.

But the northerners only managed two points -- both from Peter Hughes -- after the break, as DCU took complete control, with Fiontan O Curraoin superb in midfield.

UUJ brought players behind the ball to stem the tide, but DCU's fine passing found ways through the packed bodies, and another Dublin star, Eoghan O'Gara, kept winning frees in front of the posts for Rock to convert.

Once Rock pointed from a free on 43 minutes, DCU never looked back, with UUJ failing to register another score.

They quickly added a further four points -- Neil Collins got the first on 47 minutes, quickly followed by Colm Begley and Phillip McMahon and then another from Rock.

That put six between them and Kelly and Murphy also found their range to ensure victory.
