Cummins on song

IT Sligo concluded their league campaign with a hard-fought victory over NUIG at Ballinode on Saturday.
Two fisted goals from Galway native Danny Cummins in the first half pushed the Sligo students into a 2-1 to 0-5 half-time lead. And, despite not scoring for 22 minutes of the second half with the wind at their backs, late scores from Cavan duo David Givney and Eugene Keating helped the home side hold on.
The Breffni pair, back from McKenna Cup duty, made up for the absence of county players Adrian Faherty, Kenneth Sweeney and Mark McHugh. The Galway students were already assured of a place in the final, but had a great chance to force a draw in the final minute when they were awarded a close-in free. However, Roscommon referee John Glavey penalised one of the NUIG players for retaliating, and the chance was lost.
