Cregg leads the way for free-scoring Roscommon

NUI Galway had no answer to Roscommon's red-hot forwards as John Evans' side destroyed the students with a masterful display of scoring.

Senan Kilbride and Cathal Cregg at times were unplayable as Roscommon kicked the opening 10 points to end the contest long before half-time.

However, the Roscommon manager was none too pleased with his side, who eased off in the final quarter as NUI Galway kick the last four points.

"I wouldn't be jumping around the garden about the game, but at the end of the day I was happy to put up a good score on a bad day on January 12. We put up 15 scores last Sunday and another 15 today. That's consistency," said Evans.

Kilbride and Cregg were peppered with perfect deliveries early on as they put the game beyond NUIG's reach.

Adrian Nolan's punched goal six minutes before the break was the students' only score of the first half.

The Rossies -- who had Craig Burns black-carded for a late hit on Shane Moran -- led by 0-11 to 1-0 at half-time, and they drove home their advantage in the 33rd minute when Conor Devaney won possession at the edge of the square and hit the net.

NUIG goalkeeper Donal O'Sullivan put in a heroic performance -- he was also outstanding against Mayo on Friday night -- but was at fault for Roscommon's second goal, which gave Cregg a simple finish, after he was robbed by the industrious Kilbride.
