Cox shows class for Kingdom

Kerry 1-11 Tipperary 1-9

KERRY were pushed all the way to the finish line by a determined Tipperary side in an absorbing quarter-final in Nenagh.

Tipp were quick out of the blocks with points from Benny Hickey and Damien O'Brien, before the Kingdom eased early nerves with a well-taken Conor Cox effort from out wide.

Hickey added Tipp's third in the sixth minute, but Kerry took command for the remainder of the half with points from the inspired Cox, Mike O'Donoghue and Niall O'Mahoney and a 26th-minute Niall O Se goal giving Kerry a 1-8 to 0-4 half-time lead.

Tipp were boosted as O'Brien netted in the 36th minute and narrowed the gap to two by the 47th minute, but a James Walsh effort coupled with a 57th-minute Cox free set the Kingdom on course for victory.

Limerick 1-11

TIPPERARY cruised to victory over a disappointing Limerick in a one-sided quarter-final at Nenagh.

Tipp blitzed the Treaty men in the opening quarter, and a well-taken David Butler goal in the 18th minute helped them to a 1-10 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Within minutes of the restart Limerick full-forward Robert O'Donnell was dismissed for an off-the-ball-incident, but they responded well to the pressure and a 37th-minute Eamonn Gleeson goal helped to narrow the deficit to five.

However, that was the closest Natal O'Grady's side were to get as Tipp upped a gear and surged clear in the closing quarter.
