JOHN Miskella – who won an All Ireland senior football medal with Cork in 2010 - has been forced to retire from all levels of football.
He had received medical advising him to quit the game because of a chronic groin injury.
Miskella (33) has been one of Cork’s most consistent performers in recent years.
The highlight of his career was bringing the Sam Maguire home to Cork after defeating Down by a single point in 2010.
The Ballincollig cluibman said: "I've retired from both club and county football. It's injury-related in that I have a groin injury that isn't improving. I was keen to give it another go with Cork next year but I've been told I'm better off retiring.
"It's very disappointing, particularly as I didn't get to make the final call myself about retiring, the decision was made for me. What's worse is that I wanted to knock a few years out of the club and that's gone as well."
