DEFENDING champions Mayo were outclassed by a very strong Roscommon team at McHale Park.

Having played with the assistance of a strong wind in the opening half, Roscommon might well have felt their lead of 2-5 to 1-4 was hardly sufficient.

However, the visitors dominated the second half, and from the moment Conor Daly fired home their third goal five minutes after the restart, they took firm control of the tie.

Roscommon's midfield and half-forward line dominated, with the Smith brothers Donal and Enda leaving their mark on the game.

Backed by stunning individual displays from corner-forward Shane Walsh and midfielder Sean Moran, Galway powered into the final with an eight-point dismissal of a limited Sligo at Markievicz Park.

The visitors' profligacy -- they amassed 15 wides, and missed three clear-cut goal chances -- meant it could have been worse for Sligo, whose industry kept the first half interesting.

Level at the break -- 0-4 each -- Sligo showed occasional promise up front through Paul Logan and Niall Murphy but they eventually crumbled at midfield and were unable to curb Galway's first goalscorer, Ian Burke, Shane Maughan and the superb Walsh.
