Carty penalty ignites Wexford
After a slow start Wexford warmed to the task and eventually won comfortably enough against a game but limited Carlow side.
Carlow looked the stronger side in the first half: midfielder Darragh Foley kicked four points as they took a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by the 20-minute mark.
Wexford finally got going as Matthew O'Hanlon, Killian Kehoe and Michael O'Regan fired over points, and then came the defining moment five minutes before half-time, when Conor Carty smashed home a penalty.
Ahead 1-4 to 0-5 at half-time, Wexford maintained their momentum in the second half, as five unanswered points put them in command, with corner-forward Kevin O'Grady notching two classy points.
Carlow outscored them by 0-4 to 0-1 in the final quarter, but Wexford had done enough.
