Fermanagh coasted to an easy win against a Donegal side that bore no resemblance to that which captured the All-Ireland title in September.
The home side dominated this game from the 30th minute on, with Tomas Corrigan hitting a second-half goal to put Fermanagh eight up and the game beyond doubt. Paul Ward was in sparkling form for Fermanagh, hitting points from play and frees throughout.
Donegal did hit two late goals through Adrian Hanlon, who flicked a long ball to the net, and Dermot Molloy, who got on the end of a flowing move to rattle home.
Fermanagh boss Peter Canavan will be happy enough to get off to a winning start but will no doubt be annoyed that once again his side leaked goals in quick succession, as they did many times last year.
For the first 30 minutes there was little between the sides with only a point between them, before the home side rattled off three points in quick succession to take a four-point lead into the break.
Fermanagh got off to the perfect start when Ward intercepted a slack Donegal clearance before releasing Daryl Keenan one-on-one with Michael Boyle, with the Tempo man side finishing with aplomb.
Donegal hit back with two points from Gary McFadden and Shane McGowan before Kane Connor replied for Fermanagh.
Stephen Griffin hit a point from a free for Donegal with McFadden doing likewise, while Ward hit two points for Fermanagh both from play before Marty O'Brien and Shane Lyons rounded off the scoring for the half.
