'Boden could be without star pair

Tuesday November 10 2009

DUBLIN'S double champions Ballyboden St Enda's are still sweating on the fitness of Stephen Hiney and Conor McCormack ahead of the latest big game in their dual provincial odyssey.

Boden' face Ballyhale Shamrocks in the Leinster club SHC semi-final in Kilkenny next Sunday with a team that includes Conal Keaney, Shane Durkin and Simon Lambert, who also lined out for their footballers when they beat Rathnew last Sunday.

Hiney has returned to training despite fracturing his knee only six weeks ago, which is encouraging.

Their footballers will now be without captain Declan O'Mahony for their Leinster semi-final against Westmeath's Garrycastle on Sunday week. O'Mahony was sent off on a straight red last weekend which will earn him a four-week suspension.

Keane sweats over Fitzgerald's fitness

Corofin manager Gerry Keane fears former All Star Kieran Fitzgerald will miss the Connacht club final on Sunday week.

The Galway defender missed Sunday's semi-final win over Glencar/Manorhamilton with a hamstring injury and faces a race against time to be fit for the final against Charlestown.

But Keane is hopeful top scorer Alan O'Donovan, who also missed Sunday's 2-13 to 0-9 win over the Leitrim champions, will be back.

"It would be great to have the two lads back as we will face a very tough challenge from Charlestown," said Keane.

"I reckon Alan has a good chance of recovering but this game could be coming too soon for Kieran. He will do everything he can to play but it's a long shot."

Andrews takes Dubs minor job

FORMER Louth and Cavan manager Val Andrews has been appointed Dublin minor footballers for 2010.

Andrews, who was at the Cavan helm from 1998 to 2001 and in charge of Louth in 2004 and 2005, succeeds Cyril Kevlihan, who had occupied the Dublin hot seat for four years.

Andrews, a member of Ballymun Kickhams, has served as manager of the Dublin Development Squad for the last four years, and has been with next year's minor panel from U-14 level.

Andrews managed the Dublin junior football team in 2007.
