THE Armagh CCC are to launch an investigation into an incident which saw Kevin Nugent, one of the stars of the county's minor All-Ireland winning team last year, end up in hospital after a club league game on Sunday, WRITES DONNCHADH BOYLE.
Nugent was in action for Maghery against Cullaville when the incident occurred and was knocked unconscious. The 19-year- old's injuries include a broken chin, broken jaw and a split lower gum, while his lower jaw was dislodged.
Elsewhere, Wexford have been dealt a huge blow with the news that they will be without the inspirational Diarmuid 'Gizzy' Lyng for their All-Ireland SHC qualifier Phase One clash with Tipperary after the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) confirmed his four-week ban.
Lyng had been reported for "behaving in a way which is dangerous to an opponent" during their Leinster championship defeat to Galway.
Down boss James McCartan will be without Ronan Sexton for Saturday's clash with Tyrone after he decided not to contest the proposed eight-week ban he picked for "inflicting injury recklessly by striking with the hand" during a challenge game against Laois.
