Armagh broke their duck with a first win of the season, and it was all down to the return of their Crossmaglen contingent.

Jamie Clarke emerged as the hero with a magical attacking display, bagging 1-2.

Armagh led by 2-5 to 1-5 at the break, and in a third quarter that produced just two scores, the Longford defence tightened up considerably.

The visitors created more scoring opportunities, but could only manage another Sean McCormack free as the wides count mounted, to the frustration of their small band of travelling supporters.

In the 63rd minute, Armagh made the points virtually safe when substitute Tony Clarke slid home their second goal.

There was still time for Longford to give themselves a lifeline with a scrambled goal from McGee two minutes from the end.
