Adams watches history from the high stool
Friday July 03 2009
His son Gearoid played for them for years so, despite being in America on a speaking tour, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams was not going to miss Antrim footballers' shot at history last Saturday night.
He managed to track down an Irish bar in San Francisco that was showing the game and his dedication to the Saffron cause wasn't disappointed as Antrim reached the Ulster final for the first time in 39 years.
His political rival Alasdair McDonnell, an SDLP MP, was in Clones to witness first-hand the historic win.
McDonnell is, of course, a former team doctor for the Antrim hurlers.
