Euphrasia shock in Blue Wind

Princess Highway's quest to win back-to-back renewals of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Blue Wind Stakes was derailed by 33-1 chance Euphrasia.

Last season's Ribblesdale Stakes heroine was sent on her way the 8-13 favourite for the Group Three prize, and all looked to be going to plan as she tracked the front-running Euphrasia into the straight.

Pat Smullen's mount was well poised inside the final quarter of a mile, but did not find as much as trainer Dermot Weld would have hoped as the winner, trained by Joe Murphy and ridden by Gary Carroll, stretched two lengths clear, with La Collina getting up for second close home.

Carroll said: "We were hoping to get some black type. I gave her a squeeze and she galloped all the way to the line."

Murphy said: "She's a filly we always believed in, and that's why we had her in this calibre of race.

"It looks like stamina is her forte. She's as honest as the day's long and this filly is getting better all the time.

"The world is now our oyster. There's a mile-two race in the Curragh on Guineas weekend. I'm not sure if it's closed or not, but that might be for her."
