Gordon Elliott, who landed the Crabbie's Grand National with Silver Birch in 2007, is hoping the ground at Aintree continues to improve to boost the chance of Cause Of Causes on Saturday.

The seven-year-old, who is owner JP McManus's second string behind Tony McCoy's mount, ante-post favourite Shutthefrontdoor, showed his well-being when winning the four-mile National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham last month.

"He's in good form. The more the ground dries out, the better he'll be," the County Meath handler told At The Races.

"He jumped four National fences up on the Curragh last week so we're very happy with him.

"He had an easy week, 10 days after Cheltenham. He's been back working away and did a nice bit of work the other day and that's all he really needs. Travelling over takes a bit of work as well, so we'll see what happens.

"For the first three miles we'll just hunt away there and ride him to get round and if he's still there going out to the last mile and a half then we'll worry about winning."
