Dramatic finish sees Down capture Christy Ring Cup

A dramatic injury time goal from Gareth Johnson helped Down to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in a pulsating Christy Ring Cup final victory over Kerry.

It was one of the only times that Down were in front in the game as they trailed the Kingdom narrowly by 2-6 to 1-8 at the break.

Padraig Boyle and Shane Nolan with the goals for Kerry in the opening period with Johnson netting for Down.

Johnston had a penalty saved after 47 minutes but the rebound broke for Scott Nicholson to fire to the net.

Kerry still kept their noses in front until Johnny McCusker's point three minutes fro  time drew them level.

Kerry's top marksman on the day Shane Nolan missed a relatively easy free to put Kerry in front.

Kerry corner forward Padraig Boyle must have thought he had landed the winner in added time until Johnson deflected Paul Braniff's attempt at a point into the net to seal a 3-16 to 2-17 win
