Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo has hit back at The Sun newspaper after they published a story which the Portuguese player claims was completely fictitious.

The article claimed that the former Manchester United winger scored every goal for his late father.

"My dad would want me to play, he always did everything in life for me to play football," he is claimed to have said in the article.

"When I win something I always think about him. I know he’s around.

"He’s always looking at me and out for me. He sends me messages in my dreams because what I am today is thanks to him and to my mother."

Ronaldo took to Twitter last night to say that the story was bogus, he tweeted: "Today, the Sun publishes an interview with me that I never gave. So its content is pure fiction."
