THERE was little in the way of surprises at Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday as All-Ireland champions Cork eased themselves into a Munster championship showdown with Limerick.
In what was as one-sided a match as the scoreline suggests, Cork started as they were to continue and by the 33rd minute every Rebel forward had found range leaving Cork with a 0-15 to 0-2 lead and rendering the second half meaningless.
Jimmy Barry Murphy saw fit to withdraw both Brian Corcoran and Mickey O'Connell with the Limerick challenge only a week away.
It was O'Connell who had started the rout sending over a free within a minute before Kerry drew level for the only time in the match through corner-forward Ollie Diggins.
By the time Kerry mustered a second, Cork had surged into a 0-9 to 0-1 lead with both Neil Ronan and Timmy McCarthy adding three apiece during this period.
The comfortable lead afforded Cork to use all five substitutes with Pat Mulcahy, Alan Browne, Ben Coleman, Johnny Sheehan and Gerry O'Connor introduced in the second period.
Kerry had been successful at depriving the Cork forwards goals in the opening period but this statistic was amended as Cork began to pull away.
Timmy McCarthy finished to the net after a free from Seanie McGrath mid way through the half and to add insult to injury, Blackrock club man Alan Browne booted a second goal.
After what could only be described as a pointless outing, the question remains will Kerry follow the steps of Roscommon before next year's championship.
