ST LACHTAIN'S 2-8 GRANAGH 0-7 All-Ireland Senior Club final Máire Uí Scolai ST LACHTAIN'S of Kilkenny came to Parnell Park in search of their first ever All-Ireland senior club championship title and they duly delivered when they beat reigning All-Ireland champions Granagh-Ballingarry of Limerick.
Appearing in their first ever final the Kilkenny side showed great hunger and despite having to wait 14 minutes for their opening score, a goal from player of the match and captain fantastic Imelda Kennedy, it proved a decisive score as they never lost that lead.
Instead, the hungry Cats showed real class and further points from Kennedy, Sinéad Connery and Ann Dalton gave them a narrow lead of 1-3 to Granagh's 0-4, their opening scores having come from Eileen O'Brien (0-3) and a fine point midway from Aoife Sheehan.
However, this victory was not just about the forwards, it was a real team effort and some great defensive work throughout the game was crucial at stages as the reigning champions tried to hold on to their All-Ireland crown.
St Lachtain's stretched the lead further in the seventh minute of the second half when Imelda Kennedy slotted over a neat point which was answered three minutes later by Vera Sheehan for Granagh.
By the 19th minute Joanne Clifford sent over the final point for Granagh while Kennedy sent over another free together with two more points from Imelda Kennedy and Anne Dalton.
With time ticking away, full-forward Marie O'Connor added the icing on the cake with a well-taken goal.
However, it was perhaps fitting that the final playing score of centenary year's intercounty games went to captain and player of the match Kennedy who proudly lifted the Bill Carroll Cup aloft.
