Annalise Murphy makes up for Olympic heartbreak with European gold

Dublin's Annalise Murphy showed that her fourth place finish in last summer's Olympic Games was no fluke by winning gold in the Laser Radial class at the European Championships in Dublin yesterday.

The Rathfarnham sailor finished comfortably ahead of  Marit Bouwmeester (Nethelands) and  Alison Young (Great Britain) after winning eight of the 10 races this week.

The European Championship is Annalise’s first major title and bodes well for the Rio Olympic Games in three years time for the 23-year-old Rathfarnham sailor.

There was also success for Finn Lynch from Bennekerry, Co. Carlow who won the 2013 Under-21 Men’s Laser Radial World Champion.

He also won Bronze in the overall World Championship and Silver in the European Championship.

The ISA Academy sailor was competing at the Laser European & World Championships in Dun Laoghaire over the past six days.
