Adelaide in King Edward field

Published 14/06/2014 | 17:22

Adelaide is among five potential runners from the Aidan O'Brien yard in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot next Friday.

The Ballydoyle handler has a strong hand as he also has Carlo Bugatti, Century, Mekong River and Table Rock in the entries.

Adelaide, who has a raft of top-class engagements to choose from later on, was last seen winning the Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh last month.

Western Hymn is one of three possible runners for John Gosden, having lost his unbeaten record when sixth in the Investec Derby, finishing a little under 10 lengths behind the brilliant winner Australia.

The Clarehaven maestro also has Eagle Top and Marzocco in contention for the Group Two contest, historically referred to as the 'Ascot Derby'.

Stefano Botti's Italian Derby winner Dylan Mouth is an intriguing supplementary entry.

Other contenders include Sir Michael Stoute's Lingfield Derby Trial winner Snow Sky, who missed Epsom after suffering a late setback, Godolphin's Miner's Lamp and the William Haggas-trained Mutakayyef.
