29 potential summer transfer targets for Man United's new manager

Manchester United may have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions league, but going out to Bayern Munich along with an awful Premier League campaign is not enough to disguise the problems at Old Trafford, as David Moyes found out today when he lost his job.
The 2-0 defeat to Everton proved to be the final nail in Moyes' coffin, with his departure being confirmed on Tuesday morning after an 8am meeting with vice-chairman Ed Woodward, where the Scot was informed his services were surplus to requirement at United.
The decision to sack Moyes was made back in February, although a contractual clause that would financially benefit the club required them to wait until their top-four hopes had gone out the window.
It's inevitable that Manchester United will spend big in the summer as the look to re-establish themselves among the best teams both at home and abroad. Some reports suggest the outlay could reach as high as £200m, but they obviously didn't trust Moyes to spend the money ahead of this summer's World Cup, when fees are expected to be inflated depending on who shines in Brazil.
But who might Manchester United buy with that money? We take a look at those that could be on their way to Old Trafford this summer...
1. Marco Reus
Rumoured to be near the top of United's target list, a possible swap deal involving cash and Shinji Kagawa has been mentioned. The Borussia Dortmund player would not be a cheap acquisition.
2. Arda Turan
Moyes had been seen watching him though his dismissal puts a doubt over whether his replacement will pursue an interest. His agent claims an offer has been made, is the Atletico Madrid winger on his way to Old Trafford?
3. Claudio Marchisio
With Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba highly unlikely to be prised away from Juventus, United's attention could turn to their teammate Claudio Marchisio. The Italian international would provide some class and experience.
4. Toni Kroos
Kroos has been linked with a Bayern Munich exit after contract talks between the midfielder and the club broke down and United are reportedly keen to pounce.
5. Ross Barkley
Despite Moyes' exit, a move for Everton youngster Ross Barkley could be on the cards. Even though Moyes has gone having shown an liking for tapping into his former club's ranks, the young Englishman is precisely the sort of talent United have a history of investing in.
6. Mehdi Benatia
With Vidic off and Ferdinand possibly set to retire, United will be short at the back this summer and the Moroccan who plays for Roma is one man reportedly being lined up.
United reportedly failed with a late January move for the Porto midfielder but could re-ignite their interest in him this summer.
8. Raphael Varane
Raphael Varane has already snubbed United once in his career, opting instead to join Real Madrid. It would surely take a big offer to prise the classy defender away now.
9. Mats Hummels
With defensive reinforcements high on United's list of priorities, Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels has unsurprisingly been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
10. Seamus Coleman
Reportedly already the subject of a £15m bid, Seamus Coleman could be the man being lined up as the answer to United;s problems at right-back.
11. Wiliam Carvalho
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has reportedly been watched 15 times by Manchester United, although the £29m asking price could prove a stumbling block.
12. Xherdan Shaqiri
Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri has struggled to force his way into the first team and could be a target for United as well as rivals Liverpool.
Reportedly one of United's main January targets, the Atletico Madrid man might take some persuading to join a stuttering United side this summer, particularly given the Madrid side's form.
14. Aaron Lennon
Moyes was believed to be a long-term admirer of Aaron Lennon and with a dearth of quality out wide, the Spurs man could be a summer target, although any move will probably be dismissed with Moyes' sacking.
15. Fabio Coentrao
Supposedly came within hours of signing in January, the Portuguese left back is another that could be brought in to replace Patrice Evra in the long-term if Real Madrid are willing to let him go this time around.
16. Mario Mandzukic
Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic was reportedly a January target of United although the club may find it harder to lure him this summer.
17. Diego Costa
The Atletico Madrid man is seemingly the most sought after striker in the world at the moment, with United one of many reported suitors.
18. Jan Vertonghen
Jan Vertonghen is reportedly keen to move on at Spurs having not yet played Champions League football with them. However unfortunately for suitors United that is something they can't offer him either.
19. Julian Draxler
A long time Arsenal target, United are reportedly interested in pinching the young German with a bumper offer. Seems unlikely though. Arsenal also strongly interested.
20. Sami Khedira
The German international is reportedly being pursued by United as they look to add some quality to a fairly feeble looking midfield. Real Madrid will be reluctant to let him leave.
21. Joleon Lescott
A slightly surprising inclusion perhaps but the defender is available for free in the summer and enjoyed some of his best years under Moyes at Everton. Still looks a decent player and would add experience and defensive nous, it remains to be seen whether Moyes left a glowing report of Lescott before his dismissal.
22. Antoine Griezmann
The Real Sociedad man is another midfielder linked with an Old Trafford switch.
23. Luke Shaw
Shaw is also a target of Chelsea, the club he has supported since his childhood, so persuading the Southampton youngster to join United may prove tricky for the club, particularly as European football seems highly unlikely.
24. Eliaquim Mangala
Eliaquim Mangala has attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain not to mention rivals Manchester City. The question is can United offer the sought-after player something the other clubs can't? Seems unlikely at the moment.
25. Edinson Cavani
The Uruguayan hitman would prove pricey and tricky to prise away from PSG and it seems unlikely United have enough to offer him.
26. Juan Bernat
Another left back in United's sights allegedly, the Valencia man is pushing for inclusion in the Spanish national squad and could be Patrice Evra's successor.
27. Luciano Vietto
The Racing Club youngster has been impressing in Argentina from some time although a move directly to United would be something of a surprise.
28. Santiago Arias
Should a move for Seamus Coleman fail, PSV defender Arias is reportedly being lined up by United.
29. Miralem Pjanic
Rumoured to part of a joint bid including teammate Benatia, the Bosnian midfielder is reportedly another on United's large hit list.
