THE WICKLOW LEAGUE bowed out of the Oscar Traynor competition last Tuesday evening with all guns blazing.
The Garden County men took on the Leinster Senior League in Westmanstown knowing that only a victory would keep their dreams alive but after coming from behind four times, the Rathnew based county side eventually succumbed to a late 5-4 defeat.
Wicklow fell behind early on but hit back through youngster Jody Merrigan. Fellow youngster and former Bray Wanderers starlet Shane Doyle bagged the second leveller.
Merrigan popped up again to cancel out the Leinster Senior League's third strike and when the hosts went 4-3 ahead, Merrigan completed his hat-trick to make it 4-4 on a balmy evening in Dublin.
But the provincial side, featuring two players from Shamrock Bhoys of Bray, finally had the last laugh as they ran out 5-4 winners.
