Jaws dropped all over the county as news filtered through that Wicklow Town had overcome Rathnew AFC A to book their place in the Wicklow Cup final.
The duo clashed at Kilcashel, Avoca on Sunday morning and the Division 1 side dumped the top flight contenders out of the competition, even after giving them a head start.
Rathnew midfielder Mark O'Sullivan had given the Shamrock Park club the early lead as he beat Town 'keeper Ian Corkish but from there on in it was all Wicklow Town as they moved to within 90 minutes of an unfancied title defence.
Eric Conlon blasted the Finlay Park side back on level terms and David 'DOC' O'Connor scored in a similar vein when his free kick threatened to tear the net from its frame as he fired his side ahead.
And Wicklow Town were on Dream Street when Mikey Dunne got the better of Cathal Moody to make it 3-1.
A shell-shocked Rathnew couldn't muster a comeback and their morning went from bad to worse when they finished the tie with ten men following striker Jody Merrigan's late sending off.
The Villagers won't be spending too long licking their wounds though as this Sunday they have the small matter of a Charlie Bishop Cup final to look forward to. And their opponents at the Bridgewater Centre Park?
