Shamrock Celtic assume control
SHAMROCK CELTIC will enter 2013 as the top dogs in Division 3.
The Arklow based side were more than happy to profit from Fairwood Celtic's lack of a fixture as they overcame Fassaroe YC to pinch top spot from the Dunne's Field outfit.
Celtic faced the difficult prospect of a trip to Bray to take on Fassaroe but Niall Knowd put on a five star performance as he landed both efforts in a 0-2 victory for last season's Charlie Byrne Cup runners-up.
Arklow United also benefited from Fairwood Celtic's idleness.
The Ferndale Park men shot up to second following their crushing 5-1 defeat of Carnew Celtic. Alan McBride (2), Jordan Hannon, Niall Higgins and Edward Dunne all notched for United as they re-entered the promotion places.
St. Fergal's AFC B had looked a decent bet to be contenders for going up but have fallen away in recent weeks. The Bray side will hope that they're back on track now after their 3-4 success over Carnew United at the Back Alley. George Antia, Padraig Devlin and Wes Keogh (2) all found the net to help their side to their sixth league win of the campaign.
Gareth Cullen, Jack Kearney and John Fitzgerald were on target for the hosts.
Meanwhile, in the best of the rest category, Greystones United managed a resounding 6-1 victory over Saints FC B at the Woodlands on Sunday. Claudio Marmo struck a treble, with Luke Dolan, Simon Duffy and Joe Smyth weighing in with singles.
Chris Sheridan mustered the visitors' consolation effort.
