Rovers safe after crushing of Celtic

Ashford Rovers are safe and can now set their sights on a Charlie Bishop Cup spot.
A crushing 5-1 victory over relegation troubled Arklow Celtic A now means that the Ballilea Park are mathematically safe. Dean Doyle landed a hat-trick for the hosts, with Paul Burton and Danny Byrne also chipping in with goals. That victory hoists Rovers to within a single point of third place, with themselves, Rathnew, Shillelagh and St. Anthony's all separated by a mere point.
Current league leaders Newtown United are a little beyond Rovers though. The Magpies continue to set the benchmark for the chasing pack with a 6-0 scorching of Enniskerry YC. Dean Odlum kept the ball as he struck a treble. Also on the scoresheet were Dessie Waters, Martin Melia and Jamie McDonald.
Enniskerry YC and Arklow Celtic now look like the pair that will battle it out to avoid the final relegation spot, with BBK United already consigned to the drop.
