Rovers are first to suffer relegation

Wicklow Rovers has been relegated from Division 1. They became the first side in the Wicklow League to be relegated this season on the field after Avonmore FC forfeited the remainder of their games.

One of Avonmore's remaining games would have been a tie with Wolfe Tone Celtic but now, with the extra three points accrued from the cancellation of that fixture, the Bray side cannot be caught by the Whitegates outfit.

The other beneficiaries from Avonmore's premature departure are promotion rivals Celtic Stars and St. Patrick's. The Saints' title ambitions were ended on Sunday by St. Fergal's.

The pair met in Kilcashel and seemed to be heading towards a 2-2 draw until Fergal's captain Ian Flanagan snatched a late winner for Andy Bishop's men.

Kieran Conway and Chris Byrne had managed the Bray side's earlier efforts, with John Kavanagh and Adam Tuke finding the net for the Avoca club.
