Stars and Rathnew dumped out

The Wicklow Cup has already begun dishing out the heartbreak and we don't even know the four semi-finalists yet.
Celtic Stars and Rathnew AFC B both had a last four spot dangled before them only for it to be whipped away. St. Anthony's also joined them in the cast-offs pile.
Celtic Stars were faced with a home clash against Premier Division champions Arklow Town in their quarter-final encounter. The Division 1 side dared to dream when Paddy Byrne, who has lifted the trophy before, fired them ahead early in the second half.
Arklow Town looked to have guaranteed extra time thanks to Alan Werder's penalty but then striker Philip Gleeson delivered a killer blow to the Stars as he struck late to set-up a semi-final match against either Arklow United A or St. Patrick's.
Rathnew AFC B were dragged even further through the mill before also being cruelly dumped.
After 90 minutes of a pulsating clash with fellow Division 1 side Wicklow Town, the sides had netted four goals apiece. Mikey Dunne, Shane Dunne, Cathal Doyle and 'DOC' O'Connor were on target for the hosts, with Mark Doyle, Keith Doyle, John Sayer and Jay Devlin notching for the visitors.
Extra time was just a dress rehearsal for the penalty shoot-out, which didn't disappoint. Wicklow Town eventually emerged victorious thanks to Ian Corkish and Lennie Carton; the first kept out a couple of Rathnew penalties and the second stroked home the decisive spot kick.
Rathnew's exit there brings an end to the prospect of an all-Rathnew semi-final.
Wicklow Town will have to up their performance for the last four as they will meet Rathnew AFC A there. The Shamrock Park outfit ousted St. Anthony's from the competition on a 2-0 scoreline. Aidan Small and Colin Jameson got the goals for the Villagers on Friday night.
