Battle for the crown

Newtown United B and Glencormac United are preparing to do battle, with the small matter of the Division 2 crown at stake.

The Magpies managed a 2-0 win over Seaview Wanderers last Wednesday courtesy of strikes from Terry Murphy and Conor Eccleston and this has now set-up a mouth watering all-or-nothing clash with the Kilmacanogue side.

Provided Newtown can overcome Aughrim Rangers in their penultimate league fixture, all eyes will then turn to the Matt Kelly Memorial Grounds as the Glens look to secure the title, while Newtown attempt to stop them.

Should Newtown beat Rangers, they will then have to defeat Glencormac - whom they inflicted defeat upon in Saturday's Thomas Scott Cup final - to force a play-off for the Division 2 title. Glencormac on the other hand only need a draw from that tie to lift the trophy.
