THERE WAS great news this week for former Arklow Town FC player, Aaron Barry, who was selected to captain the Sheffield United FC U-21 squad against Leicester City although the game ended in a 2-1 defeat. U-21 coach, Chris Morgan, praised the application of his players and insisted that despite the defeat the game would be beneficial to the players development:
"We had a very young side and I always knew it was going to be difficult in the second-half, kicking against the wind, and it was, we struggled to get out of our own half. Leicester had some experienced players on show but it is no criticism of our lads, they really competed well throughout".
Aaron Barry, a former Irish international, played all his football with Arklow Town FC and the Wicklow League before signing with the Sheffield United FC Academy in June 2010.
He spent two years under contract with the academy before signing a professional contract with Sheffield United FC in March 2012.
