Arklow Utd a long way from the drop

ARKLOW United look a million miles from relegation following another success at the weekend. They travelled to Ballywaltrim for a clichéd six-pointer against St. Fergal's AFC A and the Ferndale Park men smoothly negotiated their way to a 0-3 win.
Brian Thompson led the charge as he bagged a brace. Craig Kinsella also chipped in with an effort as United put five points between themselves and the drop zone.
At the other end of the table, Rathnew AFC A and Arklow Town both did their best but Newtown United kept them at arm's length.
The Magpies visited Ballinalea Park and recorded a 2-5 victory over Ashford Rovers. Ross Odlum struck twice – once from the penalty spot, with Sean Heffernan, Mark Fitzsimons and Matt Kennedy also notching.
Paul Duffy and Mick Taylor managed Rovers' replies.
There was a battle of the Towns at Bridgewater Centre Park on Saturday evening as Arklow Town hosted Wicklow Town. Wicklow Town had got the better of Rathnew the week before but they couldn't repeat their heroics against the Arklow men, who ran out 4-1 winners. David O'Connor registered the away side's strike.
But Stephen O'Neill was the star of the show with a well-taken hat-trick. Cormac Hyland also got on the scoresheet for the third placed side.
Rathnew AFC's victory came on the road as they fired five past hosts Shillelagh United.
