BASKETBALL IRELAND hosted friendly international matches this past week between the Irish Under-17/Under-18 teams and the visiting Scottish Under-18 team. Presentation College Bray had both a current and a past pupil involved in the matches.

Presentation Bray fifth year student, Andy Bartley, was on the Irish Under-18 men's team which comprehensively defeated their Scottish counterparts in two friendly matches which took place in the Oblate Hall, Inchicore, on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Andy has been a vital part of the All-Ireland Under-16 and Under-19 schools basketball titles that Presentation Bray have won over the past few years and his selection on the Irish Under-18 men's team is well-deserved.

Past pupil Gavin Holmes was an assistant coach on the Irish Under-17 men's team which lost out to the visiting Scottish team in two thrilling matches on Wednesday and Thursday evening. Gavin is the current head basketball coach in Oatlands College, Stillorgan, and also the Dublin Raiders basketball club's Under-16, Under-20 and Senior men's team coach.

He has previously worked with the Leinster Under-15 and Irish Under-16 basketball teams and is well regarded in the Irish basketball coaching community.

It's a busy couple of weeks coming up for all of the Presentation Bray basketball teams. The Leinster/East Region first and second year schools basketball league matches are due to start the week beginning Monday, January 14. The first and second year teams will play their league matches against the following teams: Coláiste Eanna Rathfarnham, Holy Faith C.S. Rathcoole, Templeogue College, Marian College, St. Conleth's Ballsbridge and Oatlands College, Stillorgan.

An Under-16 All-Ireland schools basketball league qualifying tournament involving the Presentation Bray's team will be hosted in the school's gym on Sunday, January 20.

The visiting teams are as follows: St. Joseph's, 'The Bish', Galway, Summerhill College Sligo and Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig, Cork.
